STUDENTS at Oxford University have called for a ban on clapping, out of fears that applause noise could trigger anxiety.
They want 'jazz hands' to be used instead, the British Sign Language alternative to clapping involving the waving of hands.
Student Union representatives at the university successfully passed the motion to mandate the encouragement of silent clapping.

The ban on clapping would be at student union 'democratic events' to make them more 'accessible and inclusive for all'.
It comes after University of Manchester Students Union passed the same motion last year.
What do you think about the decision?
