AN IMPRESSIVE house in which J.R.R. Tolkien is said to have written The Hobbit is up for sale.
Number 20 Northmoor Road in North Oxford is now on the market, with a guide price of £4,575,000.

The property, marketed by Breckon & Breckon, boasts a blue plaque commemorating the famous author's residency.
Tolkien lived in the house with his family between 1930 and 1947, having lived at number 22 prior to that.
The two-floor family home, which is Grade II listed, spans almost 4,000 sq ft and was built in 1924.

This includes three reception rooms, a 27ft drawing room, six bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well as a walk-in larder, spacious kitchen and garden.
The Oxford Mail reported on the sale of the house back in 2004, when it was priced at £1.5m.
It its marked on Google Maps as a 'historical landmark' and is also thought to be where Tolkien wrote at least some of the Lord of the Rings.
