A MAN has been spared jail after he was filmed pulling a wheelie whilst undertaking an unmarked police car.

At around 6.25pm on July 1, Robert Newcombe of Pinnocks Way in Oxford, was spotted pulling the stunt on a motorbike outside a cafe by police officers who couldn't stop him at the time.

Just hours later, he was then seen doing it again – this time outside Abingdon Police Station. The 52-year-old was filmed outside Colwell Drive whilst he undertook an unmarked police car. He then raced away, but was stopped down the road.

Newcombe was charged with one count of dangerous driving through the post on August 27 and pleaded guilty to the offence at Oxford Magistrates' Court on September 10.

He was then sentenced to nine weeks in prison, which was suspended for 12 months.

He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to take an extended test to get his licence back.

Newcombe was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £122 victim surcharge.

PC Andy Wickens of the joint operations unit for roads policing based at Abingdon police station, said: “The manner of Newcombe’s riding that night was completely unacceptable and was clearly a danger not only to himself, but to other road users.

“Having earlier been witnessed performing this dangerous act, he was then foolish enough to conduct another wheelie as he overtook our unmarked car opposite a police station.

“Thames Valley Police will never tolerate such unacceptable and dangerous driving, and will always look to bring offenders to justice.”
