AN EX-police officer who was convicted of assaulting a young girl in Oxford has been spared jail.
James Chapman had pleaded guilty to allegations linked an incident at a property in the city in 1991 and was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on August 27.
Chapman, previously a sergeant based in West Berkshire, was arrested on September 17 last year and suspended from duty.
He was charged via postal requisition in April, when he was aged 43, and pleaded guilty on July 22.

Thames Valley Police confirmed Chapman was no longer with the force but would not comment further.
The body representing officers, Thames Valley Police Federation, said it would not comment on the matter.
