FIREFIGHTERS have been hosing down a huge blaze after it tore through a field near Oxford today.
The fire service urged people to avoid Watlington Road near the city, where 10 of its crews have spent hours dealing with the aftermath.
Posting on Facebook this evening, firefighters shared a dramatic photo of the flames and of the blackened remains of what appeared to be hay bales.
Emergency services were first called to the incident at about 4pm today, and remained on scene as of 6pm.
The post added: "Ten fire appliances plus two water carriers multiple 4x4 vehicles and a drone are currently dealing with a large field fire just off the Watlington Road near Oxford.
"Please keep clear of the area while we deal with the incident- we apologise for any disruption."

According to a tweet from Thame Fire Station, the fire covered an area of about 1,000m2 and crews from Wheatley, Wallingford and Oxford also attended.
The tweet described the location as Garsington.

Watlington Road runs from Oxford Retail Park roundabout in Cowley, past Blackbirds Leys, past the Grenoble Road roundabout all the way to Garsington.
The fire service did not specify exactly where along the road the fire was.
Several residents said they noticed the smell of smoke and heard sirens as the convoy of crews arrived on scene.
Emergency services have been contacted for further information.
