A 'SUSPICIOUS package' prompted an evacuation of the Westgate yesterday afternoon.
Thames Valley Police confirmed that the Oxford shopping centre had to be partially evacuated as a precaution after reports of a suspicious package near Old Greyfriars Street.
It happened about 2.40pm yesterday and officers said the package was found and posed no risk to the public of staff.
As part of the emergency response yesterday Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were also called, alongside South Central Ambulance Service.
The ambulance service said it was called to the scene after reports of a 'chemical incident'.
Paramedics assessed patients for any signs of harm, and confirmed nobody required hospital treatment.
The Westgate was open as usual by 4pm.
