One resident, Miriam Higgins, took to Twitter to thank the emergency services.
She said: "An eventful night in Oxford – three cars on my road set alight and another on a road nearby.
"Luckily no one is hurt on our street. Big thank you to the fire, police and now gas teams for making it safe."
Despite the arson attacks happening the early hours of the morning, police say they believe there were a large number of poeple in the area.
Investigating officer detective sergeant George Atkinson said: "Currently we are treating both these incidents at arson and we are linking them.
"There could be further personal CCTV in the area which could help with our enquiries so would ask this to be checked around that time."
