The lights are in place while gas main works take place.
SGN, which is carrying out the works, expect them to be finished by September 6.
Dan Burt, who manages the site for SGN, said new gas pipes are being installed to link Ferry Hinksley Road to main pipes beneath Botley Road.

He said: "We do what we can to limit the queues. We started at 9.30am, after the morning rush hour. We put it down when we can and we are constantly in contact with the traffic room. We do the best we can."
Signage suggested the works were due to start last Monday.
