BURGLARS wearing balaclavas and armed with a hammer, hand gun and knife ambushed a man as he entered his Oxford home.
As he was walking through the front door of the Marshall Road property at around 12.30am on Saturday two men pushed him and ran into the house.
Wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, they were armed with a hammer, a hand gun and a knife.
A woman who was also in the Cowley property was then threatened and attacked by the burglars when she tried to stop them from grabbing her handbag.
The thieves then ran off along Willkins Road in the direction of Oliver Road.
The woman was injured and needed hospital treatment.
She has since been discharged.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Charlotte Oliver, of Force CID, based at Oxford police station, said: “This was a distressing incident for the victims in which one of them required hospital treatment for their injuries.
“I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed what happened or have any information to please come forward.

“I would also urge people to check any CCTV or dash-cam footage in case it may have captured the offenders."
