THE new owners of one of Oxfordshire's largest stately homes are planning massive renovations.

The as-yet unnamed millionaires bought Kingston Lisle Park near Wantage for an estimated £18 million in September.

The Grade II*-listed Georgian mansion was previously owned by millionaire banker Jamie Lonsdale.

He decided to sell it off in 2013 after divorcing his wife Laura – a close friend of Diana, Princess of Wales – and announcing plans to start a new career as an opera singer.

The new owners finally took hold of the home and 300-acre country estate in the autumn.

Now they have submitted extensive proposals to revamp the whole estate in a planning application to Vale of White Horse District Council.

In a summary of the plans, the owners' agents at Martin Leay Associates of Cirencester told the council: "Over recent years a lack of maintenance has led to a need for considerable upgrade, maintenance and repair throughout the estate.

"The new owners propose to breath life back into the Estate by improving and updating the main house along with equestrian and ancillary buildings on the estate and turn it into a country estate fit for 21st century living, whilst making the most of its considerable history."

At the main house, the owners are hoping to repair the historic fabric of the building and investigate the replacement of a historic conservatory.

Elsewhere they are hoping to upgrade buildings on the wider estate which are used for business purposes.

These include an equestrian centre, polo field, several cottages and houses in the village.

The owners are also planning to create a new lake 'to enhance the ecological value of the estate and become a picturesque new element'.
