AN OXFORDSHIRE local, studying at Keble College, was on the winning team for University Challenge.
The team battled through seven rounds including three finals to win the ITV show – a first for the Keble College.
The college beat Hull University in the final round, shown on TV in November 1975.
William Charlesworth, a 21-year-old law student was the captain. He said: "We are particularly pleased to have won because this is only the second time in the 12 years of University Challenge that Keble have entered. We were beaten in the final on our previous appearance by University College."
The county resident from Abingdon is member Kevin Barnard, who was 22 and reading Philosophy and Theology.
The others were Kerzy Drahun, 22-year-old chemistry student and Timothy Lemmer a 22-year-old American studying history.
Their victory is commemorated by silver candlesticks for Keble College junior common room.
