The Liverpool-based company wants to use a vacant unit at the Botley Road Retail Park, previously used by Toys R Us.

In planning documents submitted to Oxford City Council, consultants working on behalf of Home Bargains state: "In addition to improving choice to the benefit of shoppers in Oxford, the proposal will also positively contribute to the local area through the creation of up to 90 jobs and the long-term occupation of a prominent out of centre unit that would otherwise likely remain vacant and economically inactive.
"It will also result in local investment as a result of extensive refurbishment works and a high quality shop fit out, equating to more than £5m.
"Further jobs will also be created through the construction phase."
The new store at Botley Road Retail Park would be would be close to the Aldi, Wickes and Argos stores.
The planning application adds: "The retail unit at Botley Road has sat vacant with very limited interest despite extensive marketing."
The unit encompasses 5,054 square metres of floor space and 236 parking spaces.
Home Bargains sells a range of discounted products covering health and beauty, homeware, gardening, toys, pet food, food and drink and electronics.
