The road was closed yesterday evening after the hole was spotted.
Police confirmed the sinkhole was unrelated to ongoing works on a collapsed manhole in Hythe Bridge Street yesterday.
The two incidents together caused lengthy delays around the city centre during evening rush hour, especially along Botley Road.
Oxfordshire County Council has advised drivers to avoid the road this morning.
Worcester Street is fenced off using police tape but pedestrians and cyclists are still being allowed to use it.
Traffic from Beaumont Street is being diverted up Walton Street.

Passersby were warned by police on the scene that although the hole appeared small, 'the cavity beneath is a lot larger.'
Despite this is was only fenced off using two traffic cones at around 6.30pm.
