UNIDENTIFIED flying visitors are making a surprise appearance at a village festival.

Stanton Harcourt and Sutton’s summer festival is hosting alien guests after a strange craft 'crashed' on the green in the village near Witney.

Remarkably, the apparent invasion coincides with the festival theme of ‘to the Moon and beyond’, to mark 50 years since the moon landings.

Gill Mason, from the festival committee, explained: “The spaceship, which landed in the village a few days ago, has certainly proved to be a great local talking point and has created much excitement in the village.”

As well as the spaceship, there are various otherworldly decorations around the village, which is hosting events until Sunday, June 23.

The festival, which began on Saturday, includes open gardens, a classic car show, a Sutton Singers concert and a flower festival at St Michael’s church.

Those activities precede a main festival day on Saturday, which kicks off with a parade of floats through the village at 1.30pm, followed by a fete on the school field.

Attractions include rides, stalls, refreshments and arena performances from school pupils and a local drama group.

All the events aim to raise money for local organisations and charities.

Unconfirmed rumours have suggested that the space ship and village decorations were in fact created by local resident Dan Barton, but Mr Barton is yet to confirm whether or not he had extraterrestrial help.
