OXFORD University’s historic grip for top spot on the university rankings has been broken by the University of St Andrews, which has edged Oxford down to third place for the first time.
The Scottish University has now bagged second spot in the Guardian’s university guide, marginally behind the University of Cambridge – still at the top.
Meanwhile, for the third year running Brookes has climbed its way up the rankings eight places - which now sees the university placed 33rd out of 121 places.

Brookes has also been named one of the best places to study for Journalism, Publishing and Public Relations in the country.
As well as being one of the best places to study Health Professions, Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism, Art, Architecture, Philosophy, Education, Nursing and Midwifery, Accounting and Finance, Business management and marketing.

Professor Alistair Fitt, who is the vice-chancellor of Oxford Brookes said: “I am pleased to see the University’s continued rise in the latest Guardian University Guide. We are committed to equipping our students with vital skills and knowledge which allow them to make a strong impact on the 21st century workplace and in their communities.”

Last month, Oxford Brookes rose by 15 places in The Complete University Guide 2020 with the University highlighted as being amongst the country’s “notable climbers”.
