VILLAGE life conjures up an image of idealistic, earthy, green landscapes and rolling countryside peppered with the odd thatched cottage.
A picturesque scene never too far away in Oxfordshire, as made evident by this week’s array of photographs depicting some of the county’s most quaint settlements.
But what Oxford Mail’s Camera Club also managed to stir up was the warm, fuzzy feeling that seems to be synonymous with this week’s theme: village life.
That sense of community, often lost among the hustle and bustle of suburban life, stands firmly at the centre of this week’s entries.
Village fetes and feasts, the weekly cricket matches as well as the pub life which many villagers enjoy regularly with a pitstop at their local.
Camera Club member Io Nutz captures this image perfectly on a Galaxy S9 mobile picturing The Trout Inn in Wolvercote, oozing character and willing locals inside.
The solemn side of village life was captured by Kevin Bywater in an emotional picture of Eynsham villagers marking Remembrance Day in 2018. A subtle nod to our fallen heroes, but brimming with respect balanced on the shoulders of the whole community of Enysham.
One of our favourite entries of the week has got to be the cheeky chappy pictured by Linda Robertson. The inquisitive sheep going ‘above and beyond’ to see life on the other side while his friends watch on.
The somewhat overgrown surroundings and curious expression on the animals face the perfectly charming salute to village life.
It was another outdoorsy entry which you can’t help but smile at, in an era of too much technology and the constant groan from parents complaining about screen time and the XBox.
Camera Clubber Charlotte Hickman entered a joyful images of her daughter bounding across hay bales in the summer sunshine, out in nature and enjoying the warm weather.
Next week’s theme is ‘Oxford pride’.
Don’t forget to join our Camera Club – which now has more than 1,000 members online. You can do this by visiting facebook.com and searching for the Oxford Mail Camera Club.
This week’s winner will appear in tomorrow’s paper.
Happy snapping!
