POLICE have paid tribute to the victims of a 'terrifying' pub assault after their attacker was sent to prison. 

The investigator tasked with bringing thug Charlie Paterson to justice has spoken for the first time since the sentencing on Friday.

Paterson, 32, of Oxford Road, Cowley, is beginning a two year and seven month sentence after admitting glassing a woman in the head and punching a bouncer at the Cow and Creek in New Road on March 3.

Designated Case Investigator, Steven Nicklin, of Oxford station, said: “This was a terrifying incident for both victims, one of which has been scarred for life.

“I would like to pay tribute to the victims in this investigation, who have acted with the utmost dignity and bravery throughout.

“This sentence reflects the seriousness of offences such as this, and I hope it can bring some form of closure for the victims.

“Thames Valley Police will always investigate incidents of violence extremely seriously, and look to bring perpetrators to the court to face justice.”

Paterson was on the dancefloor in the pub celebrating the news his partner was due to have a baby when he got into an argument with his victim, a 36-year-old woman. 

Eye-witnesses said Paterson took a 'massive swing' at the woman with the 'long pint glass', and the court heard she later needed stitching and was left scarred.

He was taken outside but continued to act aggressively and then punched a bouncer in the jaw.
