OXFORD City considers hundreds of planning applications every year. 

They range from chopping down trees to building extensions, new houses and changes to shops and businesses. 

But what about those that fail? 

Here, we look at four more of the projects that were thrown out by the council in the last few weeks.

Applicants have the right to appeal the decision.

1.

Where is it? 59A Marlborough Road Oxford 

What is it? The applicants wanted to put dormer windows in the front and back of the house as part of a loft conversion

What didn't the council like about it?

The council said the impact on the neighbours would be 'unacceptable' and that people would be able to look down into their rooms.

Officers said: "The proposal would have an unacceptable effect on neighbouring amenity as it would create a privacy issue for the terrace to the rear of the site on Buckingham Street, as the proposal would allow views into habitable rooms of that property.

Where is it? 20 Wentworth Road Oxford 

What is it? The applicant wanted to change the use of the house to a 'house of multiple occupancy' and build an extension

What didn't the council like about it? This is the second planning permission refusal at this address in a month. This one failed due to the height of the extension being overbearing for neighbours. 

The application for change of use was also refused because there weren't enough secure, covered cycle parking spaces.

3.

Where is it? 51 Quarry Road Oxford 

What is it? The applicant wanted to knock down a garage and a side extension and replace them with a 2 bedroom house. 

What didn't the council like about it? Officers were worried that it would 'fail to relate to the character of the area' and detract from the character of the Headington Quarry Conservation Area.

It was also too small, and failed to meet the recommended national space standard of 70m squared for a 2-bedroom house.

Where is it? 3 Hurst Street Oxford

What is it? The applicant wanted to change offices into a teaching college

What didn't the council like about it? Officers said it would be a 'poorly located college' due to its position outside of the city centre.

They also said that the space should be reserved for 'more efficient uses' that should be prioritised, but they didn't say exactly what
