CONSULTATION on plans for a controversial reservoir near Abingdon is due to close.
Affinity Water will end its public consultation tomorrow on its draft water resources management plan, which outlines a preferred option to partner with Thames Water and build a reservoir the size of Heathrow Airport.
This would be located between the villages of Steventon, Drayton and East Hanney, and the plan proposes to start construction in 2025 in time for finish in 2037-8.

Campaign group GARD, which has long railed against the reservoir, has urged members of the public to voice their concerns via the consultation.

Affinity Water will read consultation responses and plans to file its revised draft plan to the government next month, then publish its final plan in June.

Its draft plan states: "Our ‘best value plan’ includes joint development of the South East Strategic Reservoir option [Abingdon Reservoir] with Thames Water in 2038.
"This would provide an extra 100 million litres of water per day by the late 2030s.
"Alongside this scheme we will also be working on regional strategic transfer routes of water from the River Thames to move this into our area for treatment and supply."
