A MAN has died after falling from a bridge over the A40 near Oxford.
Thames Valley Police announced late last night that the man had been pronounced dead after falling from a bridge on the westbound carriageway near Wheatley, close to Junction 8 of the M40.
The force has now confirmed that the man who died was from Wheatley, and was aged in his 70s.
The man's next of kin have been informed, police said, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

The A40 was closed westbound for several hours after the incident and police asked drivers to avoid the area.
The westbound carriageway reopened this morning.
Oxford Bus Company tweeted last night that the A40 was closed between the Headington roundabout and Wheatley because of a road traffic collision, but it is not clear if it was referring to the same incident.

This follows a report of a man falling from the overbridge.
Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance staff. His next of kin has been informed.

Many people have shared their condolences on social media.
Responding to police on Facebook, one woman said: "Condolences to his family and so sorry to the people and professionals who are having to deal with the aftermath. What a sad day."
Another Oxford Mail reader said on Facebook: "I passed with my kids not long after it happened - saw lots of cars and was unsure what was going on.
"Can’t believe this is what it was, so sad for all involved."
More details about the circumstances of the man's death will likely not be made public until the inquest opening, for which a date has not yet been set.
