A SAILING club will host free taster sessions in a bid to engage more people in boating.
Abbey Sailing Club in Abingdon is running an open afternoon on Sunday, May 12, aimed at beginners or people who want to get back into sailing.
It is part of the Push the Boat Out campaign, led by the Royal Yachting Association, during which partaking venues across the country will provide free sailing trials in May.
Michelle Gent, programmes manager at the association, said: "We are delighted that for the second year running, Push the Boat Out will be returning for the whole of May.
"Open days are a fantastic day out for the whole family and a brilliant opportunity to have a go at some on-the-water activity.
"Many venues will also be organising tea, cake and barbecues so it’s a real opportunity to appreciate the club hospitality and get stuck in.
"Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned sailor looking for a way back in, there will be something for everyone."
Last year 39,000 people took part in Push the Boat Out, at more than 500 sailing and windsurfing taster sessions across the UK.
Abbey Sailing Club, which will run the tasters from 12.30pm-4.30pm, is currently the only Oxfordshire location listed on the association's website.
Families, friends and individuals of all abilities are welcome to experience the thrill of an outing on the water, with assistance from a club member.
There is no need for any experience or equipment, aside from a change of clothes, trainers and a towel.
