LOLLIPOP ladies and men are fast-disappearing from our roadsides, with just two dozen left across the whole of Oxfordshire.

Their lumious uniforms and red and yellow 'stop' signs are becoming an ever-more unfamiliar sight.

New figures revealed by the Oxford Mail today show how there are just 24 'school crossing patrol officers' currently employed by Oxfordshire County Council.

The statistics, obtained via a Freedom of Information request, show how this has significantly dropped in the past decade - from 65 in 2009.

According to the council's response, here is the list of the locations where lollipop people are still stationed.

The road name refers to the location where the patrol takes place, not necessarily the address of the school: 

  • Banbury - Orchard Fields Community School, The Fairway
  • Bletchingdon – Bletchingdon Parochial CE Primary School, Islip Road
  • Bloxham - Bloxham CE Primary School, Courtington Lane
  • Carterton - Carterton Primary School, Burford Road
  • Carterton – Edith Moorhouse Primary School, Alvescot Road
  • Charlbury - Charlbury Primary School, The Slade
  • Charlton - Charlton Primary School, Harcourt Road
  • Checkendon - Checkendon CE Primary School, Main Street
  • Chinnor - St Andrew’s CE Primary School, Lower Road
  • Chinnor - St Andrew’s CE Primary School, Station Road
  • Chipping Norton - St Mary’s CE Primary School, West Street
  • Didcot - Northbourne CE Primary School, Cockcroft Road
  • Ducklington - Ducklington CE Primary School, Aston Road
  • Faringdon - Faringdon Junior School, Lechlade Road
  • Fritwell - Fritwell CE Primary School, East Street
  • Hook Norton - Hook Norton CE Primary School, Sibford Road
  • Islip - Dr South’s CE Primary School, Kidlington Road
  • Langford - Langford Village Community School, Peregrine Way
  • Middle Barton - Middle Barton Primary School, North Street
  • Thame - Lord Williams’s School, Kingsey Road
  • Wallingford - St John’s Primary School, St John’s Road
  • Wantage - Wantage CE Primary School, Mill Street
  • Wantage - Wantage CE Primary School, Newbury Street
  • Witney – Witney Community Primary School, Hailey Road

None of the patrols are in Oxford city and just one secondary school is served by a crossing officer - Lord Williams's in Thame, the county's largest school, serving about 2,100 pupils.

Faringdon Junior School is still listed as having a patrol, but the school's head wrote to parents at the end of January, saying the role was vacated at the start of the academic year.
