PICTURES from last night appear to show a person on a footbridge over the A34 last night being helped by the police.
The A34 was closed from around 7.25pm for around 40 minutes at the Milton Interchange causing heavy traffic.
A witness said: "There was a young person on the footbridge, and it looked like this person was contemplating committing suicide. After a period of approx 40 minutes, the Police managed to grap hold of this person, and thus save his life. The road in both directions was later re-opened."
Other people who saw the person on the bridge took to social media.
Tanya Nunn said on the Facebook Spotted:Abingdon page: "Weird I saw him sitting on the bridge my gut feeling was something not right. I do hope the poor soul is ok."
Donna Merritt said: "They managed to stop and help him poor lad and he’s now been talked down. Hopefully he can get some help."
Others on Twitter reported seeing someone who appeared to be threatening to jump onto the road.
