ONE of the floors at a new care home is being named after one of Oxford’s greatest war heroes.
Sgt Major Edward Brooks, of the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, was one of only two soldiers in that regiment to win a Victoria Cross in the First World War.
He earned it by capturing a German machine gun at Fayet in France on April 28, 1917, and turning it on the enemy.

Now one of the floors at The Royal Star & Garter Home in High Wycombe has been named after the war hero from Oxford.
The innovation, to name floors of the new home after different heroes, took place after The Royal Star & Garter Homes ran a Who’s Your Hero? Competition.
The charity cares for ex-servicemen and women and their partners who are living with disability or dementia, and is keen to celebrate and remember heroic actions.
