TOURISTS were looking forward to 'going topless' as a new bus launched to connect Oxford and Woodstock in May 1985.
The open-top ride ferried summer travellers to Blenheim Palace for £4.50, including entrance to the attraction.
The Sheriff of Oxford, Bert Standingford, attended the inaugural run, with one eye on the ever-darkening skies.
Our correspondent Sue Wood said the party arrived 'windswept and breathless' but gave the bus their seal of approval.
She did advise future passengers to pack sweaters, hats and a hip flask, however.
Richard Bowler, of South Midland, was optimistic at the launch.
He felt the open-topper would be a major contribution to tourism in the area.
He said: "All the signs indicate that there's lots of good weather to come.
"Since a tourist boom is also predicted this year, I am confident that the open toppers will prove a big success."
