POLICE closed off a bridge over the Thames in Culham this afternoon while officers search the river for a person.
Thames Valley Police spokesman James Williams said it was called at 2.18pm to a report that a man was in the water.
A search was carried out but it has not yet been confirmed if anyone was actually found in the water.
Police officers and firefighters were seen on the bridge while an inflatable boat was brough in, ready to be deployed.
The road was re-opened at around 5pm.
Spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Paul Smith said three crews had been sent from Abingdon and Didcot along with a specialist rescue tender with a boat upon unconfirmed reports of a person in the river.
South Central Ambulance Service said it has been mobilised but has since been stood down.

Buses were diverted due to the closure which was in place for around two hours.

An eye witness told the Oxford Mail that the road was closed from the start of Tollgate Road over the bridges to the Abingdon Road.
A patrol car was stationed at the entrance to one of the bridges.
The police helicopter was also seen conducting searches of the area.
Buses were unable to serve parts of Sutton Courtenay and the whole of Culham.
