A ‘DANGEROUS’ paedophile who groomed a 12-year old boy and filmed him performing sex acts on Instagram has been jailed.

Depraved predator Benjamin Garvie had already admitted two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, three counts of making indecent images and one of breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

The 28-year old, of Howard Road, Banbury, created a fake account on the social media platform purporting to be a 13-year old from New York in order to groom his child victim.

After he was handed an eight-year jail term for the abuse he delivered an extraordinary outburst from behind the dock and derided the sentence as ‘a f***ing joke’, claiming child rapists got lesser sentences.

At the sentencing hearing at Oxford Crown Court yesterday prosecutors revealed how Garvie had incited his victim into performing sex acts using a fake Instagram account with the user name ‘Benjogar123’.

On occasions between September 2017 and February 2018 Garvie asked the boy to put his hand down his boxer shorts and to record him doing so.

He also asked the child to perform a sex act, which he would then record.

After the boy’s parents discovered illicit messages on the boy’s phone the police were alerted.

Investigators went on to trace Garvie by following the exact location of his unique internet ISP number, and he was arrested in May last year.

Despite initially denying any wrongdoing he later went on to admit the charges and police found numerous indecent images of children in his possession.

The images of child abuse which were found featured children as young as 10 years old.

The court also heard yesterday how Garvie had been handed a previous sexual harm prevention order in 2016 for similar offences, for which the latest crimes put him in breach.

In mitigation at the hearing his defence barrister Jane Brady said that her client was sorry for what he had done and wanted to seek help to tackle his offending.

Sentencing, Judge Nigel Daly ordered that Garvie be jailed for a total of eight years and serve an extended period out on licence for four years.

After the sentence had been passed Garvie called out that it was ‘a bit of an unfair sentence’ and said child rapists had smaller sentences, before saying ‘this is a f***ing joke’ as he was led away. After the hearing he later apologised for the outburst through his defence barrister.
