AN ARTIST is hoping to capitalise on Oxford’s growing interest in cannabis oils by launching her own range of products.

Lola Chapman, from Headington, has created the Black Sheep company after she credited the oils with helping to address her own long-term sleep problems.

Ms Chapman said she had battled with difficulties sleeping for as long as she could remember due to suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

She said taking a small dose of cannabidiol (CBD) every day led to improvements and now her insomnia and nightmares have been greatly reduced.

She said: “I had tried everything and turned to CBD as a last resort.

“I started to feel more awake and alert during the day which showed I was sleeping better at night.

“I didn’t think anything would work but it did make a big difference to me.”

Ms Chapman has launched Black Sheep to introduce more people in the city the the supposed benefits of the substance.

CBD is becoming increasingly available in health food shops and last month the Organic Deli Cafe in Friars Entry became the first place in the city to start offering coffees with a shot of the oil.

A natural extract of the hemp plant, CBD is not illegal or intoxicating.

However it has many fans and has been heralded as curing everything from insomnia to muscle pain – though the true extent of its medicinal benefits is yet to be established.

Ms Champman said Black Sheep is lab-tested and has no impurities so customers know exactly what they are buying and how strong it is.

She said she doesn’t believe it is a ‘miracle cure’ but works by helping to boost the body’s natural processes which is why people find it beneficial for a number ailments.

She said: “The plan is to scale up the business over the next year.

“People are becoming more and more aware of its benefits and I want to debunk some of the myths surrounding it.

“At the moment it’s just for sale on my website but in the future I hope to get it into gyms and fitness centres and even start offering it to companies to give out to their employees.

“I also plan to develop other products such as cannabis-infused tea, honey, massage oil, gummy bears and possibly vape.”

The full-time artist has created the design for the brand by illustrating her own labels to adorn the bottles.
