OXFORD Lord Mayor Colin Cook was joined by school pupils from German twin city Bonn to celebrate Commonwealth Day.
Yesterday the town hall in St Aldate’s was one of 850 buildings to fly the Commonwealth flag.
A group of schoolchildren from Bonn joined Mr Cook on top of Carfax Tower where they enjoyed a spectacular view of the Commonwealth flag being raised and the dreaming spires.

The Lord Mayor also read out The Queen’s Commonwealth Day message.
He said: “I am delighted that schoolchildren and their teachers from our twin city of Bonn were able to join us to mark Commonwealth Day here in Oxford.
“The schoolchildren are here on an exchange visit with pupils from Cheney School and it will be a lovely opportunity for visitors from our twin city to share in one of the civic traditions we have in this city.”
This year’s theme, A Connected Commonwealth, encourages collaboration and offers opportunities for the people, governments and institutions of 53 member countries and their 2.4 billion people.
People in Commonwealth countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Europe have been staging events.
