A DRIVER had to be rescued through the sunroof of a lorry which overturned and careered into a field yesterday afternoon.
The articulated heavy goods vehicle was carrying tiles and building supplies when it came crashing down on its side on the outskirts of Oxfordshire.
It happened on the B4057 between Compton Beauchamp and Kingston Winslow shortly after 2pm.
Firefighters said the lorry came to rest six metres down an embankment and crews were scrambled to stabilise the lorry and rescue the driver through the sunroof.
A crew member from the fire service in Faringdon was able to interpret paramedics questions for the driver who was Polish.
Crew manager Caroline Tilling said: "She very quickly established that the driver did indeed require further medical treatment and as a result was taken to hospital.
"I would like to remind drivers of high sided vehicles to take extra care when driving in high winds and adjust their speed accordingly."
