A MAN who is fighting for his life in hospital was hit by a car before being stabbed, police have confirmed.

The victim, a man in his 20s remains in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked in the double stabbing in Southfield Road on Wednesday.

It is believed to have happened after a late-night brawl involving up to ten people at about 11.30pm.

Thames Valley Police were originally appealing for a third victim on foot thought to have been involved in a collision with a car at the same time in the same road.

But today has confirmed the man still in a critical condition is believed to have been hit by a car before being stabbed.

Detective chief inspector Dave Turton of Oxfordshire CID said: "We are now satisfied that we are not looking for a third victim, and believe that the man who is in a critical condition was involved in a collision with a vehicle prior to being stabbed."

The force also added it has arrested two men who are currently in police custody.

Investigating officers said a 20-year-old man from Oxford and a 19-year-old man of no fixed abode have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

It follows two previous arrests in the case including a 21-year-old man who was arrested in London on Sunday and released without charge

A 22-year-old man of no fixed abode was also arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent, and has been released on conditional police bail until March 27.
