A PUB in Oxford city centre is set to close in a matter of days.

The Pint Shop in George Street announced its sudden closure via social media this afternoon, simply stating: "We are sad to announce the closing of our Oxford site this Saturday 16th Feb.

"Don't worry... Cambridge and Birmingham are open as normal."

The post was left at 3.30pm and regulars have already expressed their disappointment.

Commenting on the Facebook post, one customer said: "I'm sorry to hear this. It never felt like it was doing that well.

"I am grateful to you for trying to make the Pint Shop experience work here in Oxford. You'll be missed."

Also commenting on the post, another added: "This is the saddest news ever.

"Love the Pint Shop, it's my regular pub... I'm devastated! Please don't go!"

It is the second George Street establishment to announce closure in the space of a few days - last week Yo! Sushi revealed it will close today.

Customers trying to book tables for dates after Saturday, via the Pint Shop website, are met with the message: "Please accept our apologies on behalf of Pint Shop - Oxford. Saturday 16th February will be the last service."

The pub opened in George Street in September 2016.

In 2017 it appeared in the Oxford Mail after launching a £12 pint called the Cloudwater NW DIPA.

The building was previously Chelsea building society and a Chinese restaurant, and the two units were knocked together to create the restaurant and bar areas.

It serves lunch, dinner and drinks and describes 'meat, bread, beer, gin and whiskey' as its core offering.

The establishment has a four-star rating on TripAdvisor and describes itself on the review website as a 'welcoming pub and restaurant' and 'self-confessed experts in craft ale.'

The Good Pub Guide hails the Pint Shop as a 'lively, cheerful bar-restaurant with a fine choice of drinks and hearty food'.
