CLIMATE change activists urged city councillors to take action on environmental problems, telling them some pressing issues are ‘equivalent to a wartime situation’.
Last month, Oxford City Council declared a climate emergency and last night passed its budget.
Extinction Rebellion Oxford member Jane Carey said: “This is an emergency equivalent to a wartime situation and we must all pull together to save the planet.
“We have been told by the International Panel on Climate Change that we have 12 years. There is no time to lose.”
The Green Party was proposing to stop spending on the £4m Seacourt Park and Ride extension and another £1.3m for Redbridge Park and Ride to use the money for climate mitigation measures.
The budget meeting started at 5pm.
