A TEENAGER who stole two high value cars from a man's driveway has been given three months to prove himself or face jail.

Aaron Champion, of Verbena Way, Oxford, had already admitted stealing £700 in cash as well as an iPad Air during a break-in at an address in Amersham on September 2 last year.

Oxford Crown Court heard at his sentencing hearing today how the 19-year old, after ransacking the home in the early hours burglary, also snatched two sets of car keys.

Those keys operated a Range Rover valued at £108,000 and a Mercedes worth £50,000, both parked in the victim's driveway.

Together with an accomplice the vehicles were stolen while the owner watched from his window.

The court heard that after reporting the thefts to the police the victim then called Land Rover who activated a tracking device in one of the cars, which allowed police to locate them.

The cars were later found near the Oxford services off the M40, where Champion was caught.

He was also found in possession of a small quantity of cannabis, another offence he admitted after his arrest.

In mitigation at his sentencing hearing his defence barrister Peter Du Feu said that his client suffered from mental health conditions including Asperger syndrome.

Sentencing, Judge Peter Ross said that rather than impose a three-year jail term he would defer sentence until May 7 while Champion undergoes various supervision requirements with the National Probation Service.
