A MEMORIAL service celebrated the life of a former Lord Mayor of Oxford who left an ‘indelible mark’ on the city.
Dozens of people from across the political divide came together to pay tribute to Jean Fooks at St Michael and All Angels' Church in Summertown this afternoon.
Mrs Fooks died in November, just two days after she was made one of Oxford’s three honorary alderman and six months after finishing her year as Lord Mayor.
The Liberal Democrat served as a city councillor from 1992 until last May and as a county councillor from 2001 until 2017, winning respect from all sides thanks to her hard work.

Current Lord Mayor, Colin Cook, was one of four people to place items at the front of the church during the service, which recognised her time as a city and county councillor, as lord mayor and as an honorary alderman.
Jane Mactaggart, a friend of Mrs Fooks, and Lib Dem group leader Andrew Gant both spoke at the service.
Layla Moran, Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, also attended.
At the end of the service, a retiring collection was held for several charities supported by Mrs Fooks, including Wolvercote Young People’s Club and Cutteslowe Community Association.

When the former Lord Mayor died, city council leader Susan Brown said Mrs Fooks had left an ‘indelible mark’ on Oxford over many decades.
During her time as a city councillor, she represented north ward and Summertown, while she represented the Cherwell, Summertown and Wolvercote divisions at County Hall.
