WITNESSES said they saw a Range Rover crash into parked cars on Cowley Road before grinding to a halt on the pavement.
Crowds were directed away from the scene on Saturday night in what appeared to be a serious incident to which multiple emergency vehicles were called.
A young child was in the passenger seat at the time, the Mail was told.
A witness to the incident told the Oxford Mail: "A Range Rover crashed into two parked cars and eventually crashed to a stop near Sundaes.
"No one was in the drivers seat just a child (around five or six years old) in the passenger side."
Despite the massive police presence, the force will not comment on the collision, but have confirmed that nobody has died.
This was the scene at about 9.45pm last night
Pictures show a dark blue 2003 Range Rover with a personalised plate across the pavement on the corner of Cowley Road and East Avenue with its lights still on.
Reports on social media say there had been a crash involving the Range Rover and a VW Golf with 'possible on-pavement injuries'. However, police have not confirmed these reports.
This is the scene this afternoon, with little damage visible on the pavement at the corner of East Avenue
Last night the road was closed in both directions, but this afternoon everything seems to be running as usual.
Sophie Grubb, an Oxford Mail reporter who was at the scene, said: “I came out of the 02 Academy, where The Vaccines had played, at about 9.45pm and all the crowds were being directed by police saying there had been an ‘incident’."
Cowley road has been closed both ways - 5 Road buses will be diverting via Iffley road and Between Towns road in both directions.

“There must have been at least 10 police and ambulance cars and the road was closed between junctions of Bullingdon Road and East Avenue.

“All I could see was that a Land Rover appeared to have crashed into something on the pavement, at the corner of East Avenue and Cowley Road, near Sundaes Gelato."
I had to collect my daughter from the o2 academy tonight & got caught up in it. Went into total panic as couldn’t get up the Cowley Rd from the Plain, got to the road block and spoke with the police who kindly let me through & sent me to park at Manzil Way..

The picture appears to show a bicycle wheel next to the car.
The Oxford Mail is still waiting for an official police comment in the crash.
It is still not known if anyone was arrested during or after the incident.
