A RECORD-BREAKING OX5 Run looks to be on the cards after a surge in sign-ups smashed the 300 mark.
Hundreds of parents, medical staff and supporters of Oxford Children's Hospital have ramped up their efforts and already pledged to tackle the Oxford Mail's five-mile fundraiser in March.
The milestone marks the highest number of entries at this time of year for the event, as it returns for its 17th year at Blenheim Palace.
The new year brought with it a flurry of fundraisers for the Oxford Mail OX5 Run and organisers hope the sign-up campaign will keep pace and beat last year's total of more than 1,000 runners.
Joe Baker, of Oxford Children's Hospital Charity, said: "We are delighted that more than 300 people have now signed up to run, walk or jog in support of our very special hospital.
"However we still need the help of families, friends, businesses and community groups to sign up to the event to raise even more money.
"So if you have ever heard about it, read about it or sponsored someone who has taken part – but never signed up before this is your chance to make a real difference to your local children’s hospital – and help us make a real difference to our young patients and their families."
The Oxford Mail OX5 Run, sponsored by Allen Associates, makes its return on Sunday, March 24.
Fundraisers are being called on to sign up to walk, jog or run the scenic course and help raise thousands of pounds for the Oxford Children's Hospital Charity.
Last year's event raised a record-breaking £150,000 which brought the total amount raised by the OX5 Run over the years to more than £1million.
These funds have supported hospital projects such as providing vital support and monitoring equipment, as well as funds towards the multi-million-pound build of a 62-bedroom house for parents to stay close to their poorly children in hospital.
Oxford Children's Hospital staff nurse Anne Carr said: "We all know someone who has spent time in the Children’s Hospital, whether it’s a family member, a friend’s child or from within the local community – the Oxford Children’s Hospital is a central part of the community.
“Seeing just what is achieved with the money raised from the run, is incredible and makes a real difference to both the staff and the patients across the Children’s Hospital.
“So like me, if you feel inspired and want to make a difference to our young patient’s then lace up your trainers and sign up today."
The Oxford Mail OX5 Run is £17.50 to enter as an early bird special before February 24, online at ox5run.co.uk.
Runners are expected to raise at least £200 towards helping Oxford Children's Hospital continue its vital work.
