A TRUSTEE and champion of the Oxfordshire-based charity My Life My Choice (MLMC) was on BBC One's Breakfast Show yesterday morning to talk about disabilities and secure units.
Paul Scarrott, spoke about Assessment and Treatment Unit's (ATUs), which are often used for emergency care, usually when somebody is sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Comparing them to prisons, he explained that if somebody is at an ATU for six months or on a short term basis – like they were designed – there is no problem, but the reality is very different.
