AN OXFORD woman has been found guilty of 'endangering an airport' after she attempted to stop a plane from deporting migrants to Africa.
May MacKeith, 33, from Botley, was one of 15 people who entered Stansted Airport last year, delaying the plane’s departure from the runway for up to 10 hours.
After a ten week trial, the group were found guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court today having been controversially charged with rarely used terror-related offences.
They will be sentenced at the same court in February.
During the course of the trial, the court heard how the group cut through a perimeter fence and locked themselves around the plane's nose and wing using pipes and foam.
It took airport security and police hours to remove the protestors, delaying flights at the airport.
The plane was due to deport migrants to Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone and the group claim some were at risk of violence in their home countries.
Raj Chada, partner at Hodge Jones and Allen who represented the defendants, said: "The fact is that the actions of these protestors resulted in two people who were about to be wrongfully deported remaining in the UK."
