THAMES Water works have caused chaos for drivers on the A34 due to water main repairs.
Queues backed up past Oxford on both sides of the carriageway this morning between Abingdon and Junction 9 of the M40 this morning due to a lane closure on the Oxford ring road near the Hinksey Hill junction.
While Thames Water said it would finish the repair works 'as soon as possible', the county council warned drivers in a tweet to allow extra time for their journey 'for the next few days'.
Drivers reported the works adding about 45 minutes to their journey.
Although the area has been congested all day, delays are beginning to build once more this evening as rush hour begins.

Oxfordshire County Council has said the delays are down to Thames Water Works on the ring road between Hinksey and Kennington.
