PUPILS have been lighting candles in memory of a 16-year-old classmate who was tragically killed in a crash.
The boy, who has not yet been named, passed away in hospital on Wednesday after he was hit while cycling near Eynsham on Tuesday night.
He was a Year 12 student at The Henry Box School, Witney, with an area of the town's St Mary's Church set aside to pay tribute.
Pupils were sent home after learning that the boy had died.
Henry Box has not released an official statement, but last week thanked Oxfordshire County Council and St Mary's team rector the Reverend Toby Wright for their support.
The church sits opposite the school on Witney's Church Green and pupils have been paying their respects since Thursday.
The boy is believed to be from Eynsham and left the village’s secondary school, Bartholomew School, in July.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which took place on the B4449 Stanton Harcourt Road at around 9.35pm on Tuesday and involved a blue Hyundai Kona.
The boy was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital by ambulance, where he died the next day. Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to contact Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference 1378 20/11.
