A FAMOUS Oxfordshire brewery is celebrating after one of its beers was named the best on the planet.
Hobgoblin IPA (India pale ale), brewed at Witney's Wychwood Brewery, took home the title of 'World's Best IPA' at the World Beer Awards 2018 in London.
The IPA was only launched last November but received Hobgoblin's biggest award to date, triumphing over five other beers from across the globe.
More than 2,000 drinks from 50 different countries participated in a prestigious ceremony that runs the rule over the best the beer industry has to offer.
The award-winning ale was examined for its taste quality and design excellence by 100 different judges, including international brewers, industry experts and journalists.
The Witney-brewed IPA took first place in the English Style IPA category, with its combination of old and new world hop flavours and malty base proving to be the judge’s favourite.
Hobgoblin IPA then triumphed over five other champions to be declared the World’s Best IPA.
Jon Tillson, head brewer at Wychwood, said: “We are all extremely excited to hear Hobgoblin IPA has been given awards in both the International and World Brewing Awards.
"Hobgoblin IPA spent many months in the development stages and was a real team effort.
"To receive such prestigious awards, judged by some of the most respected industry figures, is testament to the skill and efforts of our fantastic brewing team here at Wychwood."
