ORGANISERS of a campaign to help homeless people in Oxford have thanked donators for their collection of ‘amazing’ dishes in its latest lunch event.
Oxford Homeless Project (OHP) puts on a meal every other Monday at Oxford’s Asian Cultural Centre - which provides the room free of charge - from midday to 2pm.
The project, which has now been running for three years, recently took 30 people to the beach to ‘give them the chance to make wonderful memories and have something positive to look back on’.
Last Saturday, a group were treated to an Eid celebration lunch.
Founder Shabnam Sabir explained: “We took them out for lunch, as feeding and caring for the less fortunate is a big part of Eid celebrations.”
Ms Sabir continued: “We are planning to take them for a day out for Christmas too so they have something to look forward to, as Christmas time is very tough for many of them as they’re alone and isolated.
“This way they know they have a positive to look forward to - a chance to do what others do: get together with friends and have a Christmas they can enjoy.”
The community project, run by volunteers and reliant on donations, is given drinks by the local food bank at every meal.
