GOWNS made by the city’s Walters of Oxford are to star in the latest Mamma Mia film.
Mamma Mia! - Here We Go Again came out in cinemas today and 200 of its cast can be seen wearing the gown created in Oxford.
The gowns feature in the number ‘When I kissed the teacher’ and can even be seen on Abba member Björn Ulvaeus who appears to make a silent cameo as a teacher during the number.
Walters of Oxford, in Turl Street, was approached by the film’s production company Obscure Pictures in Spring 2017 about the gowns and they settled on the black gowns with white fur trimmed hoods for students in the film.
The graduation was filmed at Oxford University and Godstow Abbey, Wolvercote.
Adrian Palfreyman, managing director of Walters of Oxford, said: “We were delighted to be asked, although we weren’t entirely surprised to be approached as we are constantly being asked for advise on academic regalia from all kinds of organisations from around the world.
“But knowing this film is going to be such a blockbuster, with so many huge movie stars in, we are particularly proud knowing we had a small part to play.”
