Work has begun on the £6.5m redevelopment of a sheltered housing scheme for the elderly in East Oxford.

Demolition work on Rosemary Court, in Stanley Road, started last week in a project that aims to provide elderly people with good quality rented homes.

Oxford Citizens Housing Association (OCHA), which is behind the redevelopment, said local residents had been heavily involved in the proposals. Andrew Smith, operations director for the housing association, said: "We have created an interactive DVD which brings together real life pictures and scenes of the new scheme.

"This enables neighbours and potential residents to 'tour' the new building inside and out and helps them better understand our plans for the site."

The redevelopment of the Stanley Road site, as well as the nearby Lucas and Remy housing schemes, will result in the building of 50 new properties. The completion date is set to be October 2008.
