A MAN was taken to hospital after being chased and attacked by a gang of four men in Banbury.

The man was walking back from the town along Oxford Road towards Woodhall Drive when he was assaulted at 2.31am yesterday.

PC Mike Welsh said: "The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries and left deeply shaken and distressed.

"He didn't know the area very well and thought he was taking a short cut.

"When he was chased he lost his sense of direction so we are unsure where this incident actually happened. I would ask anyone who witnessed this completely unprovoked assault to get in touch."

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact PC Welsh at Banbury police station via 0845 8 505 505, or if you do not want to talk to the police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
