DO YOU think you could go the whole day without using any plastic?
People in Oxfordshire will join millions of others around the world by ditching plastic tomorrow for the first global One Plastic Free Day event.
Running alongside World Environment Day, set up by the United Nations in a bid to encourage action to protect the environment, organisers and supporters of the one-day zero-plastic event are urging people to go for 24 hours without consuming products packaged in plastic.
The initiative, officially organised by A Plastic Planet, is supported by supermarket group Iceland and entertainment giants Spotify and Sky.
To kickstart the one-day challenge here's a handy map of retailers in the city that sell plastic-free goods which has been compiled by Jarfull, a plastic-free grocery delivery company in Oxford.
The global event follows plastic-free schemes which have recently been launched in Oxford in a bid to cut plastic, including the new initiative, Refill Oxford, which aims to encourage people to get free water refills from shops and public sites, to save on single-use plastic bottles.
According to statistics from Plastic Free UK, an estimated 4.5 billion plastic bags are given out by UK supermarkets every year.
Anyone wanting to take on the challenge to boycott single-use plastic can follow the day of events and get top tips by following the hashtag ‘#OnePlasticFreeDay’ on social media.
