The two lorry drivers were in a critical condition this morning following a head-on collision near the Oxfordshire-Gloucestershire border.
The crash happened at 1.50am on the A40 west of Burford, and one driver was trapped in his vehicle before he was taken by air ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The other victim was taken to the JR by land ambulance.
Fire crews were also called to help free one of the victims from the wreckage.
Police closed the A40 to carry out an accident investigation between the roundabout at the junction of the A40 and Burford High Street and the Great Barrington turn, and the road was reopened at 10.10am.
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance said: "Both drivers suffered life-threatening injuries. They suffered multiple injuries including chest injuries."
