Oxford City Council's Labour group has called for victims of last month's flooding to be given a council tax rebate.
Group leader Bob Price, who represents Hinskey Park ward where several homes were affected, has asked Town Hall chiefs for a review.
However, it is unclear how much of a rebate - if anything - residents would be entitled to.
Those living off Abingdon Road and on Osney Island, off Botley Road, saw their homes damaged by water.
Some face up to a year in temporary accommodation as they wait for the damp to dry and insurance claims to be settled.
Mr Price said: "At a time when people have lost so much of what they worked so hard for, it's only right that we help them."
Jericho and Osney city councillor Colin Cook added: "A council tax rebate would be a real help to those who did not have insurance and to those with insurance who have incurred additional costs not covered by their policies."
Jim Campbell, the Liberal Democrat's executive member for better finances, was unavailable for comment.
