THREE families from the Bablockhythe area are still living in emergency housing provided by West Oxfordshire District Council following the flooding of their homes three weeks ago. At the peak, it had 60 residents in temporary housing.

Other families are staying with friends or relatives or in temporary housing arranged through their insurance companies. Barry Norton, leader of the council, has written to parish and town councils in the district asking them to comment on the floods and emergency operation.

He said: "We shall be liaising with Oxfordshire County Council and the Environment Agency to ensure a full and comprehensive review of the past month's events, which will be used to inform future actions and develop joint solutions for all involved."

A preliminary report said that an estimated 1,500 homes had been flooded and 68 businesses.

More than 150 residents were given relief at four rest centres.

The council is also setting up a local flooding appeal. Mr Norton said: "Local groups and organisations may be keen to raise money in our area for locally affected communities. We have therefore established a separate holding account which can be used for any money raised and this can be added to the funds received from the Red Cross appeal."

Cheques can be made payable to West Oxfordshire District Council Flooding Appeal and sent to the council HQ at Woodgreen, Witney Oxon OX28 1NB.
